Our School Day

Our School Day – Key Stage 2: Upper School

It is important that all children are in school and ready to begin lessons on time. Here is an outline of our school day:

Morning Session

  • School starts 9.00 am – 12.00 noon

Afternoon Session

  • 1.00 pm – 3.30 pm

Other Information

  • Lunch break is from 12.00 noon until 1.00 pm each day.
  • A total of 40 minutes each day is spent on collective worship and breaks.
  • Children are asked not to arrive at school before 8.40 am as supervision may be difficult.

Our School Day – Key Stage 1: Lower School

The children’s day in school begins at 8 a.m. if they go to Breakfast Club.

The bell goes at 8.50 a.m. for the children to enter school with their teachers or teaching assistants. This ensures that learning can begin at 9 a.m. For health and safety reasons, children must be supervised by parents if they arrive before 8.50 a.m.

  • School Begins          9.00 am
  • Morning Break         10.45 – 11.00 am
  • Lunch                       12.00 – 1.00 pm
  • Afternoon Break       2.00 – 2.10 pm
  • School Ends             3.00 pm

The Reception timetable is as above but without morning and afternoon breaks. The children have access to their outdoor area at all times during the day.

Our School Day – Nursery

  • Morning Session      8.50 – 11.50 am
  • Afternoon Session   12.00 – 3.00 pm

Lunch Times

Supervisory staff are on hand at all times throughout the lunch break. All children are expected to go out into the yard after lunch; however in the event of adverse weather all the children will stay indoors fully supervised.

In Lower School, lunchtime monitors are chosen from volunteers from Year 2 and are on a rota. Their role is to assist the lunchtime supervisors with clearing up the dinner hall after the sitting, assisting the Reception children with their coats in preparation for going outside to play and looking after the Reception children whilst in the yard playing.

In Upper School, Year 6 act as buddies and mediators. The buddies organise games on the yard and the mediators support children in resolving any issues that might arise.

Further information about school meals can be found on our ‘Parent Page’.

Assembly

Collective worship for Key Stage 1 and 2 children is held daily at 10.30 a.m. in the school hall as a whole school assembly. It is provided in accordance with the Durham County Agreed Syllabus and is considered to be a very important part of each school day. Parents have the right to withdraw their child from this. Please discuss this matter with the Head Teacher.

The Reception children join in a ‘good news’ celebration assembly every Friday. This includes birthdays and achievement awards for each year group. VIP children of the week sit on a special VIP table at lunchtime.

Key Stage 2 children celebrate their fabulous work over the week in a special ‘VIP’ assembly every Friday. VIP children of the week sit on a special VIP table at lunchtime.
